Children's Eye Health

Some children may have vision screening carried out at school (between the ages of four and five). However, the earlier problems are detected, the more successful the outcome. If there are any problems that are not detected  at an early age, the child may have permanently reduced vision in one or both eyes. If you have any concerns about your child's eyes, or if there is a history of squint or lazy eye in the family, book an appointment with our Optometrist before they start school.

Under the NHS this is free for children under 16.

Your child does not have to be able to read or write to have a sight test. We offer our expert professional advice and friendly environment to make your child's visit a happy one.

Specialist Paediatric Dispensing

Clear and comfortable vision is crucial to  ensure your child develops to their full potential both at school and socially.

Did you know...

80% of a child’s learning is through the eyes, so have those little eyes tested to support them in achieving their dreams.

Protect your child's eyes from the sun

There is evidence that too much exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can contribute to the development of cataracts and age related macular degeneration. As children tend to spend a lot of time outside, it is important to protect your child's eyes in the sun.

All our children's sunglasses have 100% UV protection and carry the British Standard (BS EN 1836:2005) or CE mark.

You can also protect your child's eyes by  ensuring they wear a hat with a brim, or a sun visor in bright sunlight.

However, scientific studies have shown that children who spend time outdoors are less likely to be short sighted. So do not stop your child exercising outdoors, just make sure their eyes are properly protected.

Testimonials

Ria and Sophia have been going to Finans since they were 4 months old, they will soon be turning 8. The ladies have always been fantastic and so helpful no matter what the query or problem is. They always go above and beyond.

I now have a 3rd wearing glasses and the 3 of them love going to get their eyes tested and picking out their glasses. All the staff have great patience with them.
